DSI School Safety Team Delivers Full Scale Exercise to the North Florida Community College in Madison

TALLAHASSEE, FL -  DSI has announced that its highly respected School Safety Team has successfully completed a Comprehensive Active Shooter Exercise for the students, faculty and staff of North Florida Community College.  This program was sponsored by the Madison County Emergency Management Office.  To perform this innovative exercise, subject matter experts (SMEs) and local representatives from several agencies (School District, Sheriff’s Office, and other first responders) worked through a detailed planning process and also took part in exercise conduct and evaluation.  Exercise development and supporting documentation was produced with input, advice, and assistance from the exercise planning team, which followed the guidance set forth in the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Homeland Security Exercise and Evaluation Program (HSEEP).  The North Florida Community College – Madison County Active Shooter Situation Manual provided exercise participants with all the necessary tools to carry out their role in the exercise. The North Florida Community College – Madison County Active Shooter Exercise was designed to establish a learning environment for players to exercise their plans and procedures for responding to an active shooter incident.

In announcing this event, DSI Chief of Preparedness David Crisp praised the outstanding cooperation and creative input from college and local officials.  “This event, one of DSI’s first at an institution of higher education, was successful because of the outstanding input and participation of not only the incredible faculty and staff of NFCC, but also the Madison County Sheriff’s Office and other local stakeholders.  This is a prime example of a small county and a small college being prepared in a big way!”
