DSI Conducts Active Shooter TTX

by Frank Koutnik

CRAWFORDVILLE, FL - Based on the number of active shooter events that have recently occurred around the nation, Wakulla County Emergency Management decided to exercise their plans to manage an active shooter event. Using one of the Wakulla County schools as the theoretical target site, the exercise reviewed the procedures for managing the event. This included law enforcement, EMS, Fire Rescue, public information, elected officials, school board, Red Cross and other groups. The exercise consisted of three sections, each dealing with a unique aspect of an active shooter event.

The participants left the exercise with a renewed understanding of how Wakulla County would manage such an event. The location for the exercise was the Wakulla County Emergency Operations Center, which is managed by Scott Nelson, WC Emergency Management Director.
